Triple Vagal Method™ FAQs
-
How does the Triple Vagal Method™ affect the nervous system?Through physical stimulation of the vagus nerve and release of oxytocin, the nervous system is engaged and the completion of the trauma cycles is encouraged. It works to release trapped emotions and break down fascial (tissue) calcifications resulting from trauma. The method contributes to the strengthening of vagal tone which refers to the activity of the vagus nerve, a key component of the parasympathetic nervous system (your ‘relaxation response’). This can result in improved emotional resilience and a calmer state.
-
What physical or emotional responses might occur during a session? You may experience a variety of responses, including the release of trapped emotions, unfamiliar body sensations, the movement of electrical charges throughout your body, flashes of (traumatic) memories, uncontrolled body movements, crying, screaming, etc. As part of any other treatment, it may lead to unintended side effects such as lightheadedness, fatigue, headaches, or nausea. The duration of potential side effects can vary from person to person. They are often temporary and may dissipate shortly after the session. These are part of the process as the body works through tension and trauma. It's crucial to communicate any concerns with your TVM practitioner.
-
What are some of the benefits of the Triple Vagal Method™?The modality offers a range of benefits, including a more regulated nervous system, increased resilience in navigating life's challenges, a sense of calm, relief from trauma symptoms, improved physical health, and enhanced self-regulation.
-
Why do I need to tell you about my trauma in order to receive the Triple Vagal Method™?Triple Vagal Method practitioners ask to learn about our client’s trauma because it helps us create a “map,” which is essentially a personalized treatment protocol that will best serve the client, the client’s body, and most affectively address the dominant circuitry of the client’s nervous system.
-
What does ‘dominant circuitry’ mean? The Triple Vagal Method™ was created with the understanding of Polyvagal Theory. In Polyvagal Theory, there are three different neural circuits that shape our behavioral responses to the world around us: Parasympathetic/Ventral Circuit = the safe and social mode. We feel comfortable, connected, happy, open, peaceful, grounded. Our face is expressive. We emotionally relate to others, easily understand, and listen. Sympathetic Circuit = fight or flight mode. We feel anxious, afraid or angry; we may try and force positive feelings or facial expressions. Dorsal Circuit = freeze mode. We feel frozen, numb, ‘not here,’ disconnected, hopeless, ashamed, and disassociated. As human beings we are constantly moving up and down these different circuitries, however many of us spend significantly more time in one mode vs. the others. With the Triple Vagal Method™, our goal is to exercise the vagus nerve, and build enough vagal tone that allows the client to eventually have ventral circuit dominance and baseline, with smaller peaks and more rapid travel between the other states
-
What does a Triple Vagal Method™ session look like?Sessions will be anywhere from 60 to 75 minutes. (Please block off at least two hours from your schedule for your session. It will be beneficial to have some free time after your session to rest and integrate.) During the session, you will lay on a massage table and I will place my hands on various points on your body to engage your vagus nerve and apply different amounts of pressure to the surrounding fascia. Sometimes I will tap on your body, as well as monitor and check-in with the density of your fascia to determine if your nervous system is currently in a process or not. I may ask you to make movements with your body, face, and jaw, as well as cue you through some breathwork or voice activation. I will be guiding you through the entire session and will always be present with you. Do not ever hesitate to communicate anything to me or ask any questions. Online sessions take place over zoom and are one-hour long. During these sessions, you will be using two tennis balls (or something similar) to apply pressure to various points on your body as I guide you through the entire process based on what I observe in your physical body and energetic body.
-
How many sessions should I get?I do not give single, stand-alone TVM sessions. Sometimes, it takes multiple sessions to communicate safety to the body and facilitate breakthrough and release. You always have the agency to change your mind, but I typically require a commitment to at least three sessions.
-
What is the post-session self-care protocol? The Triple Vagal Method™ is literally exercising your nervous system. Processing and releasing trauma is not an ‘easy’ thing to put your body or mind through. If you are receiving TVM, here are some self-care tips I very strongly recommend: Eat Healthy: Increase your intake of proteins and fats while minimizing processed foods. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water. Electrolytes, found in sources like coconut water, are also beneficial for the nervous system. Prioritize Sleep: As the body reprograms, rest and adequate sleep are crucial. Allow Time for Integration: Spend time without distractions to process and integrate your experiences. Sit in nature, write in your journal, and spend time with yourself. Get Vitamin D: The best source is sunlight, but you can also take a supplement.
-
How much does it cost?Right now, I am offering sessions on a sliding scale basis from $75 to $150/session. Pay what you can.

"francesca has been a guiding light on my journey, gently revealing where my perspectives and thoughts have been unhealthy. previously, i found myself unable to advocate for my own needs and envision a positive future. francesca did not impose her preferences or opinions on me; instead, she facilitated a process of self-discovery, helping me identify avenues and activities that genuinely excite me. through this collaborative exploration, i realized the power of steering my life in a direction that aligned with my authentic desires which has proven to be powerful. the big lesson? live in the now. yesterday had its ups and downs, but today is where growth begins."

"before francesca's coaching program, i struggled with allowing myself the same patience and space that i give others. i felt disconnected from my spirituality and self during a transitional period of my life. francesca helped me to replace negativity with gratitude and guided me through bite-sized changes to incorporate in my life. i felt tangible differences in my energy and anxiety levels, and now feel strongly that i have everything i need to move forward."

"i was in the midst of a transitional time in my life and lacking direction when i started working with francesca. she helped me uncover the goals that were most important to me, and gave me clear action steps to work towards those goals. the most significant benefit i took away from our sessions was the ability to look inward and make changes based on the techniques of self-reflection that she taught me. francesca has a wonderful sense of intuition and a gentle demeanor that makes her a wonderful coach!"
